What direction has it been blowing from then tim? Been an easterly all day on xc observations??

My mistake I meant veer easterly to north easterly, which it is doing now. This should help the front stall over northern areas. There's an area of vorticity / convergence zone setting up in north London as well which will help. Looking good for north Cambs across to Northants for a further 10cm through the night

good effort sir.trust that you've had a good day so far.

Judging by the 12z that are rolling out no end to the cold well up to and beyond Easter. Suspect more snow chances to come as well.

Pasta Carbonara, one of my favourites. I have a feeling we might end up this evening having a fair bit of snow. The radar appears to have gone a bit crazy out in the North Sea.

Looking at the radar, it will not be long before it clears here, am i right in thinking this is going to then drop south again? back up to 3cm here, but still no covering on roads or paths, and getting very light again

Afternoon all :)

I have to say I hadn't expected anything from this until I saw Thursday morning's BBC weather report from Elizabeth Rizzini just before 7. Gone were the 10/11c maxima expected from earlier in the week for Friday and Saturday to be replaced by 2/3c temperatures. Even then, I thought the prospects for snow marginal and expected plenty of cold rain.

Today has been a second surprise with a dusting of snow this morning (the sixth snowfall of the winter or the first of the spring depending on your viewpoint). The day has seen steady and persistent sleet and snow even into central London but with little settling due to the wet and warm ground. The contrast with March 11/12 when the ground was easily cold enough for snow but the precipitation was 100 miles too further south is noticeable. Also noteworthy again is the cold ESE'ly wind.

Currently, a slight sleet is falling and most of the snow has now melted. I would imagine that any kind of altitude there will have been an accumulation of snow.

Well after a day of snow and hardly any settling the temp has dropped to freezing and the snow is finally starting to settle! Will probably die out soon now :(.

No guessing Katie, official measurements please! Only joking, when you feel the need to measure, I'll record a depth for you.

Cheers,

Tom.

Lol was a good guess 2.5 inches.

Horrid stuff. Time to call time on winter. Just wet and slushy no fun at all.

Horrible jealous my friend in the centre of Halifax had 23 inches. Grrrhh

Time for sun

The snow is perhaps the heaviest its been all day now. Plants and grass turning white, and very very slight settling on paths. Temperatures refusing to fall still, 0.6, and dewpoint has risen up to -0.1 now.
