I really think people need to calm down a little it is the main front from the west that draws in the colder air in later that will turn this to snow away from southwards facing coasts which may get a mix. good.gif

And another from null on facebook ( thanks for the updates Keithy)smile.pngsmile.png

The West Country braces for Heavy Snowfall, due to hit the region during the early hours of Friday, just in time for the School run. Snow totals still 10-15cm+ in the West and North of the region ie. Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and parts of Somerset, around 10cm across Swindon, locally more. Major disruption is likely. Travel should be avoided if at all possible. What is even more concerning is the developing weather situation for Monday with the potential of another (similar type) event which could bring another 10cm or more. Potentially by Tuesday some parts of our region could see around 1 foot of snow. It's absolutely essential that you all keep checking my updates and be aware severe disruption is very likely. The confidence on Monday is still low, but we are definitely concerned. Some seriously snowy weather coming our way, stay safe folks!

Ian showed excellent forecast for Points West region!!!

Anyone else notice the "boxed" graphics for Monday at the end! Heavy snow AM and PM!!! But he didn't mention it, so much going on tonight it didn't surprise me.

Ian's forecast summary:

Significant snow -1st part of the day, before easing in afternoon. 9 inches in upland areas for Points West area.

Early hours coming in but mentioned the dreaded "sleet" word for later.

Peetering out by midday for Bristol.

Sleet for somerset by afternoon.

Lets hope this doesnt turn to sleet on mendip air_kiss.gifgood.gif

Great forecast by Ian, anyone else notice what it showed for Monday as well!

Yes - just caught that out of corner of my eye.

I'm being really picky here but it didnt seem quite as good, snow wise, as i thought it might be for our area. The less cold air seemed to be making more northward progress later in the day. IMBY.

Spotlight forecast was very interesting, still wintry into next week with wintry showers for Devon & Cornwall. Snow for all at some point tonight - leaving Devon and Cornwall before rush hour thankfully.

Erm il add.

10cm widely

20cm high ground

And continuing to snow well into the evening for the north of region , ie Gloucestershire , he made a point of saying that .

He also said he expects it to still be snowing Saturday morning over the Cotswolds.

Re my pics

The quality is shocking so I'm not doing it!!

Yeah, I didn't really like the "upgrade" either, and was very happy with the previous site. Interestingly, the met office app is now the 6th most downloaded on the apple App Store!

If you dig about the old layout is still there..... .......I prefer the old layout.

Can I also reiterate that the NAE expects the temperature in Somerset and the General Bristol area to be 3oC at 6pm and 2oC at mid-night (before the main front) so relax - its all ok for the moment.

The only thing that could keep the lying snowfall totals down slightly is if there is increased convection prior to the main band, and rain/sleet falls, leaving a damp ground before the main snowfall arrives, but this is a minor detail.

Had quite a bit of snow this morning .My cat was not impressed. My Kids however were.

They have been told that if it snows overnight don't bother going to school.

Eh? Which part of Wellington was that? I've been here at work all day in town, and saw nothing but a very few isolated flakes, all of which melted on contact.
