They are know as the ancient Strat Snow files which always appear before a major pattern change, which way are they flying hopefully east to west or north to southrofl.gif

They are flying incessantly round the lampshade, does that help?

Do you have any houseplants growing inside by any chance? Check around them if you do, probably sciarid flies.

Cold comfort indeed, I obviously put some thawed into it and I didn't expect such an avalanche of opinion. I can see I've been skating on thin ice with this issue and I'm now on the slippery slope.....

Are they lamp flies? blum.gif

I'm not sure how solid a trend it is just yet but I would say FI is around the 10th January right now, which is intriguing as that is not many hours after the Jet splits out in mid-atlantic. As in JPs post above, let's take London's GEFS 12z output as an example of where things are trending. Air Pressure, T850s and Precipitation all follow a broadly similar solution up to that point in time (model consistency). Thereafter, change is most definitely afoot. diablo.gif

Considering today's GFS 12z run can probably be considered a warm outlier in FI, it is still a most reasonable evolution for something much cooler by Mid January. The general trend further afield over in Helsinki suggests the synoptic evolution over there is even more complicated. Just where is FI in that part of the world? 7th January maybe? This clearly needs to be resolved.

However, both the mean and control runs look very tasty from the 11th January onwards, over in Helsinki. acute.gif

Berlin's ensembles being none too shoddy either, especially with regard to the T850 trend. clapping.gif

As per my other post the period to concentrate on is from the 9th January to the 12th January. Let's also hope that we hold onto a cold continent (i.e. in line with GPs long-ranger) and then the snow should come. good.gif

I have been hibernating these last couple of weeks due to the wet and mild but I'm back now, I can sniff and taste the bitter weather in the air!

Hello all.

FYI, from the other regional. drinks.gif

Your post in the other thread sums up the situation very nicely! good.gif

Nothing to change my mind about the next 7 days at least maintaining a dry theme, from today's/tonight's output, with little to note weather-wise over the next week or so.

As John Pike's post illustrates, some very interesting GFS ensemble runs appearing. Wouldn't be suprised if a GFS operational run throws up a 'stella' run, such as the ensemble member JP posted, within the next couple of days. A growing signal for cold from the model output for sure.

Well, after a pretty tedious couple of weeks model watching, it appears some momentum is gathering towards a much colder middle/end of January. Let's hope this isn't the monumental let down that the phantom easterly gave us in early December. Fingers crossed, John Pike's chart ramping device is primed and ready to go!

It's quiet in here...is everyone watching the pub run roll out? Things looking perky in the model thread at the moment!

I will be ramping soon

Although it looks safe to venture in the mod thread at present

Think a lot of excellent ensembles shortly :-)

Fax charts about half an hour
