Wet and windy first start to November, with a cold end. Similar vain to 2010. 5.0*C - slightly colder than November 2010, due to a cold start and this remaining throughout November, getting very cold end of November. Most global models now showing this to be likely, especially MetOffice going for a cold November.

5.0*C

I'll reserve judgement until next week. Novembers in recent years have been a real mish mash with bouts of very mild weather i.e. 2011 and 2009, very wet conditions i.e. 2009 and very cold weather i.e. late 2010 and to a lesser degree late 2008.

The synoptics at present are quite interesting and if they persisted then a month like Nov 96 could be on the cards which saw a dominant NW flow with polar maritime air..

Once again we are likely to see another October free of any notable stormy weather and the relatively calm autumn so far is also similiar to recent autumns, the atlantic could of course ramp into gear which would produce lots of wet and windy weather but there are no signs of it stirring into such gear in early November, but things can change.

On a personal level, I like November to be a chilly month with lots of foggy frosty weather at night and blasts of polar air giving bright showery conditions with decent snowfalls to hilly regions and later in the month the first snows of the season. Nov 2008 was a good month in this respect, whilst never particularly cold it delivered a mix of cold showery weather with fog and frost interspersed with drier milder spells, with a decent polar blast at the tail end heralding a good first half to Dec 08. Autumn 12 so far has felt very similiar to Autumn 08.

6.2C for me, 1C below the 1981-2010 average.

Global_Warming over on TWO posted some pattern matching suggesting that that a colder than average November and December is highly likely.
