After 19mm of rain yesterday and 31.2mm since midnight falling on already saturated ground it was inevitable that a major weather flooding story was going to evolve today.

@AWD lol yeah unless u got a boat,Round 2 ??? We've had enough rain!

Best watch the forecast for tomorrow mate, it could be just as bad again.

From Ian Fergusson;

W COUNTRY Given saturated soil conditions, strong winds tomorrow could make some trees vulnerable to toppling. More on @bbcpointswest 6.30pm

W COUNTRY: Tomorrow brings further potentially severe weather and threat of more flooding. I'll have details on @bbcpointswest at 6.30pm

It's still a few days away yet but Friday to Sunday look wet and windy with all parts of the UK at some point will feel the nasty weather,

Wind

Gales across England and Western Scotland on Friday morning,

Very stormy over Shetland on Friday night average wind speeds over 60mph there if the models keep saying this I would expect warnings out there,

On Saturday just average wind speeds around 40mph on the Western coasts,

And on Sunday the same thing but also in Shetland again seeing strong winds,

Rain

Widespread on Friday afternoon,

Saturday slightly drier but still wet along the West,

Sunday another day of rain for many,

Overall Friday hosts the most interesting weather with storm force winds forecast for Shetland and heavy rain for many parts of the country, The weekend will be wet and windy at times but nothing expected to be too severe at the moment.

Update on the unsettled spell this weekend now using the high res model,

Friday

Early morning gusts over 40mph across Ireland,

Heavy rain starts to move into Ireland as well,

By the early afternoon the same strength of wind gusts will move across all of the country the South East of England will see gusts over 55mph,

Rain starts to move across England and it will be heavy in the South East with those strong gusts,

Into the late afternoon and early evening the wind will start to drop across Southern parts but increase along the North, gusts will be at their highest along the North East coasts around 50mph,

Rain moves North as well,

Friday night winds picking back up in England and Wales around 30 to 40mph gusts but the Northern Scottish isles will start to see very high gusts around 70mph,

Rain drying up for most but some heavy showers moving in across England and rain still going over the North of Scotland,

I'll do another update tomorrow for Saturday.

Forecast for Friday 14th and Saturday 15th December 2012

Heavy rain and flooding, gales, stormy far north, snow over Scotland and Shetland

Risk of early snow over parts of Scotland Friday.

Heavy prolonged rain crossing England, Wales, Ireland though Friday morning and early afternoon, moving up across Northern England by afternoon, with gale force winds for most places, especially along coasts and hills, as the heavy rain moves into Scotland through the afternoon and evening this could turn to snow, heavy downpours following the rainfall across England, Wales and Ireland into Saturday night. On Saturday night Scotland and the Northern Isles/Shetland could see heavy snow in places, more likely over Shetland where storm force winds are likely to develop late Friday and early Saturday creating blizzards, These storm force winds affecting Shetland/Northern Isles, with the far north of Scotland at risk to of stormy winds Friday evening/night, and on Saturday.

Snow should turn to rain through Saturday afternoon over Scotland, the Isles, and Shetland, although snow could still fall in places.

All other areas at risk of heavy downpours through saturday with Southern England most likely to see these on Saturday.

My warning map is below:

post-11361-0-78882700-1355452291_thumb.g

Please keep check on warnings and updates on stormy weather developing today and tomorow

especially over the far north/Shetland later this evening and into Saturday where damaging winds are likely

(update-risk of severe gales developing today across Southern England, most likely SE)

(precipitation could turn wintry over northern England for a while early today)

Eastern Scotland got battered by waves and strong winds last night http://www.bbc.co.uk...etland-20739484

As promised Sundays forecast, well no point really posting up any charts because Sundays weather has been downgraded a lot, the wind will be mostly calm however we will still have gusts of 30 to 40mph across Ireland and Western parts of Wales and SW England. As for the rain nothing serious still going though in some area's on Sunday as the chart below shows the places likely to see rain,

I am in the East Midlands and need to move my boat off the river on Thursday.

Is the bulk of the rain coming on Thursday and only a weather front tommorow??

There hasn't been much discussion about this system due to cold rampers getting the hump.

best you keep an eye on the NAEF and Net Wx NMM outputs for closer to the time?

best you keep an eye on the NAEF and Net Wx NMM outputs for closer to the time?

both should give at least 24 hours warning of high totals.

Watch the outputs from Net Wx alerts as well on the front page?
