Some of these pressure tendencies are quite impressive.
On 11 February 2003 a vigorous depression developed off the coast of Nova Scotia and moved north-east over the Grand Banks at an average speed of about 50kn.* It underwent explosive deepening, from 990mbar at midnight to 947mbar 15 hours later, and clipped the south-east corner of Newfoundland (the Avalon Peninsula). The low passed close to several weather stations, allowing some unusual pressure tendencies and other features of the storm to be recorded.
