With so much of this devilish white stuff covering the sky here, I think there will be around a 1/1000 chance of the record for February being broken here today (he hee...). Would agree it doesn't feel that warm out their at the moment, even though the temperature is in double figures at approximately 12.2*C currently.

Interesting to see the strip of land in Eastern Scotland and down further South, that is currently seeing the exceptional warmth for the season:

And there it is, 14.1 degC beats my February record which had stood for 14 years.

I guess it will struggle today now, but still a memorable warm period for that part of the world.

Indeed, hence the reason why the record has stood for so long!

Pleasantly warm today at 17°C so far, even if the record won't tumble. Warmer than last Thursday here, and even a tad warmer than last Tuesday I think.

Oops, looks like I was right, the clouds didn't clear and it didn't turn out to be a pleasant day.. why am I not surprised? Oh that's right, because it's been cloudy for the past 9 days!!

I read in the Metro it was 16.1c at Aberdeen in Scotland at 4am 28/2/12. It had dropped down earlier in the night but rose upto 7c in just a few hours. 16.1c would be a notable Summer night temperature, let alone February.

Typical, it gets to March 1st and we now have almost clear blue sky.

Mean temp here of 9.1C for the 20th -29th Feb which is possibly the mildest final third of February on record.

Mean Max was 13.0C and mean min 5.3C which is more like the average for the first half of May. Only the 24th with a max of 9.8C failed to reach at least 11.4C.

Though having checked the records it would appear the final third of February 1953 was about as mild (mean temp 8.9C, mean max: 12.7C at Dyce). It was certainly a much nicer spell with almost 5 hours sun per day on average. By contrast this current spell was unusually cloudy for such synoptics, producing only 2.6 hours daily average.

Overall mean for February was 5.2C making it the 2nd mildest winter month I have recorded in the past 7 years. Only February 2008 with 5.5C was milder and that is probably the only milder winter month since February 1998.
