Surely one of the most blocked NH regimes for that date, -10c uppers into Scotland on this day 27 years ago, a peach of a chart.

Interesting to see how in 2007, 1985 and 1963 there was a southerly displaced low pressure system to our SW with strong heights to our NE allowing undercutting and therefore snow rather than rain.
The 2007 synoptic promised wintry goods galore thereafter but in the end the block to the NE was rapidly pushed aside.
Mid Feb 1985 was a superb bitter easterly - synoptic very similiar to new years day 1979.
We came close to seeing a Feb 1985 easterly this month - but it wasn't to be..
