6.3/3.7c this morning. After heavy overnight rain and strong winds its now clear with bright skies. All snow gone on the hills behind me but it does look a beautiful morning.

Sky news weatherlady just said changing by end of week with wintry weather just about everywhere....guess it depends on what your definition of wintry is but given these forecasts are always centred around southern Britain it bodes well for us....that's despite at first glance a backtrack from the models this morning however the ensembles still painting a cold outlook apparently...hav not had a look at them myself
Winter 11/12

First Snowfall 04/12/11
Last Snowfall 19/01/12

Winter 10/11

Last Snowfall 12th March

Well the background signals still look good for blocking regardless of whether this particular attempt fails and the idea of the russian block sinking and then failing to re-emerge to our north simply doesn't fit with the signals. The ECM ensembles looked pretty decent, and since the easterly was based on the movements of small shortwaves there are bound to be more changes to the model output.
I survived the coldest winter since '63, and almost the coldest in 100 years.

Lets face it LS, we'd all sell our grandmothers for a snow-flake

The snowfall of November/December 2010:
7 snow days
Maximum depth: 15 inches
Days off school due to snow: 5
Total days in 2010 off due to snow: 6

Things look slightly different by 102 on the 6Z http://cdn.nwstatic....102/h500slp.png
Everything is slightly further west and shortwave formation looks to be further south. There's still a long way to run on this one yet.

The 6Z follows the trend of attempting retrogression to Greenland http://cdn.nwstatic....240/h500slp.png
I suspect the models are perhaps being a bit progressive with this but it is a very encouraging signal and one I've noticed on a lot of runs in the last 2-3 days. In this instance it struggles to become established but we still end up with a fairly potent cold spell http://cdn.nwstatic....300/h500slp.png

Hopefully the next one will have a lot more in the way of ramping and snow reports. Like Tuesday morning for example http://www.weatheron...M=0&PERIOD==
