Btw I have been following this tremendous live coverage since about 11am this morning and would like to congratulate and thank everyone involved for making it possible. Tremendous stuff.

Im also following it on BBC Radio Scotland via Sky. Some really good coverage on their Newsdrive programme now.

How do you do that Coast? When I try it I only get the squall line without the map background

I was going to send the pic to my wife as I'm not at home -- she is

Northampton and Peterborough shortly in line for the fierce squall line then gradually pushing very slowly SSE'wards.

What time if at all do you think we might get that squall line here :drinks:

Around 20.00 - 21.00 but I think the rain may have eased by the time it gets to the far SE as that quite often happens.

Gone midnight I would think but I don't know, purely speculating. It may speed up or slow down and it may equally disappear completely. :nea:

As Coast says, if you purchase the NW radar you can follow it in as good as real time.

Sorry, can't be any more helpful than that.

I'll update when I can as I'm sure other kind folk will. See my post 305 above for the latest.

Stormy Regards

If it can keep the intensity and structure, possible as early as 21.00 hrs, but it has a lot of land to travel across and upper winds might steer it one way or another or it may even collapse. Need someone like Nick F, John Holmes or Paul Sherman to give you a more definitive answer.

Nothing of note here max gust 56 mph fairly quiet now once gain too far south. Sounds very interesting further North though.

Windmill on fire in Ardrossan. First post - hello everyone. Great forum :good:

Welcome Lisa, great first post!!!

I guess the brakes were overridden by the shear speed of the wind, going to be expensive

Thanks guys, been a lurker for a while and a newbie weather watcher. Find it all fascinating and always check the live cams. Slowly learning what it all means and getting quite addicted. Falkirk has been horrid all day, strong gusts and my roof slates are flying all over but other than that, nothing too bad. Katia seemed worse in this area, we'll see what the evening brings I suppose.

Hi everyone been out sweeping the streets around my area today and the last hour or so the wind has really squaled up, it must be gusting 50 perhaps even 60mph here so I dread to think what it's like in Scotland and Northern England :-( All I can say people is stay safe, this is clearly 1 of the biggest storms the UK has seen for a few years if we've only caught the edge of it and even I was getting concerned at being out in it. Is it true that somewhere in Scotland I'm assuming at high altitude recorded 165mph? If so surely that's close to being a UK record, thats on a par with a category 5 hurricane :shok:

More than 300 passengers are stranded on the Rotterdam-Hull ferry off the East Yorkshire coast. The Pride of Hull, was unable to dock, after fears that high winds could damage the P&O ship as it entered port.
