Hi.

Just wondering why the radar isn't picking up on hail that's been very widespread throughout NW England today? Just been showing rain.

Winter 2011/2012.

Snow falling: 5
Snow Lying: 2 - 16/12/11. Heavy snow most of the morning into afternoon. Stopped 2pm. 2 inches. (20/02/12 - dusting)
Lowest temperature: -5.5C (10/02/12 @ 4:47am)
Ice days: 0
Frosts: 21
Air frosts: 15
Days with hail falling: 8

It'll miss some hail etc, as, like all radars it's not 100%

Ah right.
Thing is though, I've never seen it display hail, even today it's been hailing. Is that feature still in beta?

It does not seem to handle hail well, it rarely shows here.

the radar is also missing some of kent out and has been for a day or two... :(

That's not something in our control I'm afraid - it's about the radar network itself and all radar output is affected.

We raised a ticket with the Met Office about this and they're saying there were a couple of faults at the radar site which has caused it to go down, they've been fixing it over the last couple of days so the coverage should be back to normal tomorrow hopefully.

Paul, this is happening in the Cambridge area too!
If you lent someone £20 and never saw them again. It was probally worth it !
