Hullo

Great excitement for me this morning - partly because I've taken the plunge and registered to post here, but mainly because Edinburgh Has Snow!

7am - Lightest-possible dusting of white on distant Pentland Hills to south and rain here; 8am, half an inch of fine powder snow here, and still drizzling pure snow.

It's currently 6.3 °C here with high cloud that is letting the sun poke through to bring some brightness.

We had a low of 4.6 °C all night. It is questionable whether we'll get any of today's forecasted showers, as any rain that travels east over the southern parts of the Peak District normally weakens into nothing.
Snow (Winter 2011-2012):

05/12- A heavy snow shower earlier on in the morning, and then a very brief snow shower in the late morning. Lots of sleet too with hail also falling at times. There was no accumulation.
09/12- A shower that started as rain but turned to snow with decently sized flakes. The snow was moderate and did not settle, due to previous rain in the day.
31/01- Some extremely light snow (snizzle) fell in the late morning. There was no accumulation.
04/02- Frontal snowfall for around seven hours. The snow began at around 2pm and was very light until around 6pm, where it became heavier. By the end of the event there was an accumulation of 10cm.
09/02- Moderate freezing rain was followed by half an hour or so of light snow which gave a very slight covering. There was no measurable accumulation.
04/04- Frontal snowfall gave a good covering of 8cm or so on the grass, although it quickly melted.

Days of lying snow- 9 (05/02, 06/02, 07/02, 08/02, 09/02, 10/02, 11/02, 12/02, 04/04)

Had our first wintery shower this morning - hail :-). Currently 5.7 windy and cloudy

Where the models are concerned nothing is set in stone, it's all up in the air.

Sleet falling here, the first of the winter. Don't know what the temperature is as I'm at work but would guess around 2c.

Woke up to an inch of snow this morning, it's melted from the roads and pavements now but still remains on the grass. Temp hasn't been above 0.7C all day and frequent moderate snow showers have popped up through-out the day. Expecting some more snow tonight aswell.
