Hi, on the GFS the first 192 hours are in higher resolution (0.5 degrees), after that it's at lower resolution (2.5 degrees). All the weather models produce a grid of data across the globe (or whatever area they're covering), so the higher the resolution the smaller those grid boxes are.

These are examples from the GFS - the numbers are the centre of each grid:

The higher res version has that many more grid points, and that much more info, so is able to give extra local detail within it.
