With the subject of earthquake swarms being of interest following the onset at on El Hierro, the smallest of the Canary Islands, I thought it might be a good idea to start a separate thread on this subject for discussion and reports. This should keep the "earthquake discussion" and "volcanic discussion" clear of continuous reports that a swarm brings.

While it is a place to report details of a swarm, it is not a place to flood with every minor shake. These things tend to come in groups, so could we please keep discussion to "groups" of swarms or perhaps details of a 4 hour period?

The swarm south of the island and El Hierro continues - I'm beginning to wonder whether it's the advent of a new eruption site to the south of the island. I was under the impression that the Canaries were over a hotspot and moving north like the rest of Africa, so is it possible that the islands have moved far enough to the north since any major eruption for the hotspot now to be that far south?

Swarms in the med are perfectly normal and should show more regularly due to the increase in the SIL network covering the area having been increased over the last 12 months.

Up to 104 aftershocks (and counting) around the Eastern Lake Van region since the magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit. Many of the aftershocks alone would have been substantial enough to have created their own headlines, even past 9pm UT there was yet another M6.0 nearby the city.

Massive earthquake swarm near Gujarat- Is India on the eve of tearing?

An earthquake swarm of more than 41 earthquakes have shaken the region of Gujarat, India on October 21, 2011 following the 5.0 magnitude earthquake which struck the area the day prior at a depth of 15.5 km (9.6 miles). Since that time, the tremors in the region has increased at a frenzied pace- indicating the earthquake may be more than just a random seismic tremor.........http://www.isr.gujar.../Latest_EQ.html

Oklahoma is enduring continued Earthquake swarms

November 6, 2011 – OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - A stronger 5.6 magnitude earthquake has struck the state of Oklahoma about 63 km (39 miles) SSE of Stillwater. This is the most powerful earthquake to ever strike the state of Oklahoma. The epicenter of the earthquake was 34 km from Shawnee, 71 km (44 miles) from Oklahoma City and about 311 km (194 miles) from Dallas, Texas. Before today, the strongest earthquake Oklahoma had seen was a 5.5 magnitude quake which struck the state on April 9, 1952 near Reno, Oklahoma. Earlier today, the state was struck by a 4.7 earthquake. Today’s 5.6 earthquake was another very shallow event- registering at a depth of 5 km or 3.1 miles. Panicked residents reported houses and buildings were shaken by the latest tremor but we have not received any initial reports of damage. Courtesy of Extinction Protocol

El Hierro Volcano Stirs Itself Into Action Once More

A seven minute tremor signalled the possible resumption of notable quakes from the underwater volcano off La Restinga, but IGN scientists are not aware of new magmatic material appearing on the surface. This is a marked change in tempo from the quiet over the past few days. The stain in the sea clearly shows a dark brown head, bubbling in the middle surrounded by a green stain which denotes a presence of gases. GPS monitoring stations recorded the same pattern of stability in both vertical and horizontal components over over the past few days..............http://www.tenerifenews.com/index.php/news-mainmenu-1/canary-islands/el-hierro/17785--hierro-volcano-stirs-itself-into-action-once-more
