Only local & national news in Buenos Aires is reporting this as of yet...

Reporter: ...were sleeping, at two in the morning?

Woman: Yes, we were the first ones, the first five people who came here, and it felt like lightning, it was a dry (quick) impact. From there came out the lady whose name is Shanina, a young woman, 35 years old, and she was completely injured, her face, her legs.

Reporter: And you were.. Do you live nearby?

Woman: Yes I do, half a block away, half a block away, so we came, and we ran into all of this. But it was something very powerful, the impact, there was a flash and then it impacted. And everything shook, my bed, frames fell off the wall. Very powerful and terrible but, well, the people were beneath all the debris. Then the neighbors began to help them and take them out. What did take long was the ambulance’s arrival, but the people helped the woman that was...

Reporter: I’m assuming this scared you and your family because you were sleeping?

Woman: We were sleeping and we woke up the children. We thought it was the power cables, because of the, because of the... But there was a black smoke, a very strong smoke, a very dense, thick smoke, it was a dense, thick environment and, that’s all.

Reporter: Thank you ma’am.

Woman: No, thank you.

Reporter: Well Marina, in the words of the neighbors, who give us their account of how things occurred, in that moment when this home exploded. Allow me to emphasize that a woman died, of approximately 30 years old, the other 6 people were injured and were immediately taken to a hospital here in the area of Temperley, keep in mind that Temperley is very close to Esteban Echeverria, so immediately the ambulances and fleet of firefighters showed up. I reiterate that 3 vehicles remain beneath the rubble. Marina?

Anchor: And allow me to share with you Adrian that via Facebook, Twitter and other social networks, we are receiving messages that...

My grasp of foreign languages is not great but I see a collection of garages/workshops with a lot of gas canisters being shown?

One woman died and six other people were injured as a result of the event. A local resident told Radio 10 that the explosion was caused by a flaming object that fell from the sky and completely destroyed a house and several cars. “It was a veritable earthquake,” she said. he event took place a few minutes before 2 a.m. in a property located at the intersection Luis Vernet and Los Andes streets in Monte Grande, municipality of Esteban Echeverria. The causes of the explosion remain unknown, but local residents claim “a fireball fell from the sky.”

There was an overpowering smell like gunpowder,” recalled one of the people living in the area, in statements made to C5N. “There is no explanation for what took place,” added Cayetano, another resident, to Radio 10. He then added: “A neighbor woman came out running because she could see a blue fireball falling from above.” Guillermo Perez, commander of the local fire brigade, remarked that the causes of the incident remain unknown, while acknowledging that the first story points to “an object that fell from the sky.”

“I heard that version, but can’t confirm it at first instance. It is necessary to go by an expert investigation to see what really happened,” he told Radio 10. Perez confirmed that two houses and a business were “completely destroyed.” As a result of the event, an elderly woman trapped under the debris perished while another six were rescued. Firefighters told C5N that these were subsequently taken to a local hospital. The fatality is among the victims living in the house where the explosion took place. Three of the injured are members of the household and the other three are from the adjacent house, affected by the explosion. The injured parties are out of danger, C5N explained. According to neighbors, the explosion was even heard in such neighboring communities as Ezeiza and Temperley, to the south of Greater Buenos Aires.

This was reported in UFO digest......

To back this up, I've just found this and I would suspect that a gas cannister may of gone bang and looked like a meteorite on its return to the ground:

A woman died and eight people were injured in an overnight house explosion in Monte Grande, Buenos Aires province. According to police sources the cause of the violent explosion remains unknown. The blast occurred around 2 am at Los Andes and Vernet streets. The wounded were taken Santamarina hospital. Seven people are being treated, one person has been cleared. The deceased woman was identified as 43-years-old Silvina Espinoza. Neighbors’ accounts describe a ball of fire coming from the sky as the cause of the explosion. The chief of the firefighters, Guillermo Pérez, however, said the “causes remain unknown” and that “gas containers were found intact,” ruling out a gas related incident. The blast caused destruction in several structures and cars surrounding the house.

from RSOE which rules out the gas cannister theory

Leaking gas then? rolleyes.gif

An explosion wrecked two homes, a business and several cars, killing a woman and injuring nine people on the outskirts of Argentina's capital. Early reports by some witnesses that they had seen a ball of fire fall from the sky around the time of the 2am explosion caused a sensation, but authorities said later that evidence pointed to an explosion of leaking gas.

Officials said a search by the more than 100 police and others turned up a canister of natural gas with a poor connection to a pizza oven. After the reports of a fireball coming down, the government dispatched the large number of searchers to check for radioactivity and any material that might have come from outer space. Provincial justice and security minister Ricardo Casal said experts were "evaluating all theories, from an explosion to something strange that came from the sky."

But the experts found no evidence of a crater, and NASA said its satellite that fell to Earth sometime Saturday landed well clear of South America. Late in the day, the government said it appeared the blast was probably caused by a pizza oven's poorly connected gas canister. A young man who had claimed he photographed a space object and gave authorities a picture showing a streak of red light through the night sky was detained for providing false testimony, the Argentine news agency Diarios y Noticias said.
