If anything the heavy bursts are pulsing inland NNE'wards from the IOW and building more strongly according to NW v5 radar.
Pretty cold for August too, is it not! only 11.7c and 98% humidity.
Thunder or no Thunder, today will be a memorable day for some.

General evolution: A strong jet limb is developing heavy precipitation with embedded convection along the warm front across the southern half of England, slowly moving ENE through the period. Up to 20-25mm has already fallen across parts of Dorset in the last hour.
Forecast: Showers and thunderstorms with lightning and rainfallaccumulations locally up to 30mm are possible in a short period with the added risk of strong gusts.
Conditions may be poor on roads with localised flash flooding and very poor visibility. Please listen to local radio/television broadcasts for up to date information on travel conditions.
UKww will monitor this warning and update/upgrade if/when necessary.

"Warnings are issued for widespread disruption. Heavy rain on the south coast is localised. Forecast mentioned heavy rain"

So in situations like these its the local reports to warn people, i.e radio.
