i live in a 'dry zone', during last winter we missed 90% of the snow and this summer we have missed 90% of the rain, it just doesn't seem to be able to rain here? we never used to have this problem, it's been like this since the 'weather shift' in 2007.

As far as the rain goes it's the same here,My area must be one of the driest in the country, but my area did get incredibly lucky with snow last december.45cm of the stuff :D
45CM/18 INCHES OF SNOW ON DECEMBER 3RD 2010 WITH TEMPS DROPPING TO -15C.

It's the same here. July only recorded 27mm of rainfall.

We also got similar snowfall amounts in December. :whistling:
Snow (Winter 2011-2012):

05/12- A heavy snow shower earlier on in the morning, and then a very brief snow shower in the late morning. Lots of sleet too with hail also falling at times. There was no accumulation.
09/12- A shower that started as rain but turned to snow with decently sized flakes. The snow was moderate and did not settle, due to previous rain in the day.
31/01- Some extremely light snow (snizzle) fell in the late morning. There was no accumulation.
04/02- Frontal snowfall for around seven hours. The snow began at around 2pm and was very light until around 6pm, where it became heavier. By the end of the event there was an accumulation of 10cm.
09/02- Moderate freezing rain was followed by half an hour or so of light snow which gave a very slight covering. There was no measurable accumulation.
04/04- Frontal snowfall gave a good covering of 8cm or so on the grass, although it quickly melted.

Days of lying snow- 9 (05/02, 06/02, 07/02, 08/02, 09/02, 10/02, 11/02, 12/02, 04/04)

It was very cold, but Buxton have a very different climate to use, due to elevation. Chesterfield has a climate which is typical of the rest of the North Midlands, whilst Buxton seems to get weather more like Cumbria, especially when it comes to rainfall and cold!

Typical - wait all summer for storms at uni in Oxford...nothing! When I'm finally home in Cheltenham, we miss out by a few miles and Oxford gets them! :whistling:

That is what you call Sod's Law, 03jtrickey. I recall back in September 2008 (5th I think?) when I spent a week in Devon a day after the massive flooding in Cheltenham (It does happen, Jane. ;-) ) and Gloucester. No storms up here in Solhull but a battering of rain on the journey down the M5. But when I was away, that very same day, thunderstorm over Solihull as my younger Brother reported.

Sod's Law! ARRGHHHHH!!

Maybe if I go travel to Skegness for the next couple of days... If Shakespeare was a weatherman... "To Cb or not to Cb?" Probably not!

Just got back from working in Chipping Norton, Oxon today...Quite a pronounced line of showers popped up to the east late this afternoon passing near the Oxford/Woodstock area, and by the time I left (7:30pm) had developed into a moderate thunderstorm about 5 miles to the east of Chipping Norton, quite a bit of lightning

I'm a tad confused (it doesnt take much) - but having read through the convective forecast discusion & reports for today, there seems to be a thread already started for tomorrow at 8pm today that has 2 pages of chat to wade through already. Is there any way of holding off the excitment for the next days lack of potential a bit later? :unknw:
