Weather Symbols

This is probably a silly question but i'll ask it because im confused,On sites like ESTOFEX there is a R like symbol in the areas at risk of storms,I looked it up on google and it said it means thunder heard but no rain,Whats confused me is the forecast is for the next day,So how could thunder of been heard if theres no storms and like i said risk is for the next day if you get what i mean.

the 'R' symbol you mention is in fact the international symbol for thunderstorm, as Coast has posted there are a number of variants of thunderstorm, with/without rain, with/without hail, with snow/rain, thunder heard but no precip and lightning seen.

the rest appropriate to thunder are as Coast commented.

I don't know whether it's of any interest but to complete the set, so to speak, the international cloud symbols and definitions for low, medium and high clouds.
