Warm Weather Set To Last A Little Longer

The Met Office says people in many parts of Britain are expected to enjoy another few days of unseasonably high temperatures.

Ditch the jumpers and coats for a few more days - forecasters say the warm weather is set to last a little longer across many parts of the UK. Temperatures last week reached around 20C (68F), and the Met Office has predicted the mercury will hit 19C (66.2F) today and tomorrow in the south and east of England.

Northeast England can also expect maximum temperatures of around 19C, while eastern Scotland is set to enjoy a pleasant 18C (64.4F). The UK average for this time of year is 12.8C (55F). It is expected to be dry today in southern and eastern parts, with a chance of rain in the North and the West. Met Office forecaster Emma Corrigan said: "In the past week we've seen temperatures consistently of about 20C in terms of maximums. "Even though we've seen heavy rain it's been warmer than average, mostly in the south. That is due to the wind direction."

She added that while parts of the south and east would see warm weather today and tomorrow, "from midweek onwards it's a cooling period, a marked dip in temperature due to a cooling wind and it will be more towards the average".

With the days becoming shorter and winter approaching, there can be no better time of year than to snuggle up next to the one you love and watch a good movie or order takeout. If you’re single, it’s not just wishful thinking but scientific fact that the winter months see traditionally promiscuous singles begin to look for serious relationships and settle down. Scientists say that colder weather can affect our brains and therefore influence the way people date

The mail is worse! (someone please have a word with the headline writers)

Time to get out your winter coat: Blizzards, sleet and frost forecast for this weekend as Britain set to be colder than St Petersburg

[*]In Scotland temperatures in some areas will dip as low as two degrees

[*]Risk of widespread fog on Thursday at temperatures plummet

[*]Comes after summer made a brief return and the sun shone last weekend

what the MetO representative actually said was:

'We could be seeing winds of up to 50 knots, or 57 miles per hour, with wintry showers in Scotland, with a risk of blizzards on higher ground above 500 metres in the Highlands and you may see sleet on the Grampians

One man and his dog enjoy the dawn as the sun sets on the Indian summer

A WALKER and his dog cast a silhouette against a beautiful autumn backdrop. The golden dawn emerged in all its glory as the sun rose across Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, yesterday. The clear skies heralded another day of warm weather that has seen above-average temperatures across the UK. But experts say it is set to turn colder and more unsettled from today. High pressure responsible for the Indian summer will make way for a chillier picture, with cold winds arriving from the North. The Met Office warned temperatures will drop to below average for the time of year. A spokesman said: “Becoming windy, with a risk of gales later along the Kent coast. Feeling colder.â€

I noticed in yesterdays Sun newspaper they quoted the Met officeas saying that we are likely to see a colder November and December.

I think it was also in one of the Scottish papers saying how they expect Northern blocking to be a feature come December and seem to be talking up a cold spell, personally  I can't see the MetO coming out with a comment like this at such an early stage, more like a quote that the press have blown out of proportion.

Is that unusual? I mean, November and December do tend to colder than October...

Would not surprise me if they've just taken the words from the contingency planners forecast and made a story of it if so lets put it right

Models have a weak signal for slightly higher-than-average pressure to the north of the UK, suggesting a slight weakening of the prevailing mean westerlies, which could allow a greater-than-average incidence of blocking patterns. This period is a transitional time of year in which a given circulation pattern can result in very different temperature outcomes between the beginning and the end of the season.

Well Sceptical Inquirer new what my post ment but just for you they were

quoted as saying colder than normal. Normal being the average cet temps

for November and December.

Colder therefore mean temps below (under) the relavent cet values for

these two months. Hope that helps

PS If you are still unsure PM me and I will try to explain in more detail.

LOL only joshing as I am sure you were with me.

First taste of winter blasts in as Britain faces week of storms

STORM-hit Britain faces a week of bitter gales, rain and freezing temperatures as the first taste of winter roars in. Temperatures are set to plunge over the next few days as a cold blast sweeps across the country. The highlands of Scotland have already seen snowfalls with experts warning of the first widespread frost of the season. It comes as gale-force gusts wreaked havoc along the east coast yesterday, whipping up huge waves along miles of coastline. Gusts of up to 60mph battered parts of Norfolk, felling trees, while massive waves and torrential downpours triggered flooding. Residents of Walcott, near Cromer, were forced to board up their homes and seek refuge in a local pub after ferocious waves smashed over the sea defences.

Forecasters said strong winds are likely to continue into next week with Arctic gusts making it feel bitterly cold. Forecaster Jonathan Powell, of Vantage Weather Services, said parts of the North could see the mercury drop as low as -2C (28F) over the next few days. He said: “This is going to be the first real taste of winter. Wind from the Arctic region is going to make it feel very cold. Saturday is looking quite menacing.†The Met Office said the South will have the most unsettled weather, with parts of the North of England and Scotland in for some brighter periods despite the cold. Spokeswoman Laura Young said: “The South and South-east will see showers throughout the weekend, although in the North there will be fine spells.†There is also a risk of ground and air frost in the South.

I see they're ramping it up again, with James M quoted as saying it could be the worst winter for over 100 years.

Poor things must be in a quandary - With that, Al Fayad's lawyer piping up and the developments in the McCann case how can they work out what to put on the front page?
