A fox, believed to be the biggest ever found in Britain, has been caught and killed after it apparently ate a family's pet cat.

If it was a record breaking fox, why were they allowed to kill it?

Any one can kill any Fox, regardless of the health or size of the animal, regardless of the person's ability or qualification to kill it humanely.
There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact.

Pity he killed it as it would have been worth studying more. I see it caused the normal hysterical response from the pro hunting lobby. You know soon we're all going to eaten by giant foxes your children and pets are not safe. Oh dear.

Sad indictment of mankind. They don't even kill each other humanely so what chance does a fox stand.

By the way I do accept that the fox population needs controlling but then so does the cat and dog population. The amount of food they eat in one year would feed an awful lot of people but no-one (myself included) suggests we should cull them. And yes, dogs do cause far more injury to babies, toddlers, young people and adults than all the foxes in Britain. So why pick on the foxes, after all, they are small canines?

Widespread i mean by that i read at times theirs a problem with foxes in the towns and city? and while im on this thread i must just add my facts:
1 - Foxy is no more dangerous than a dog
2 - I love the dog and the fox
3 - fox is wild a dog is not
4 - Unless its a wild dog
5 - Fox can only eat extra in town if its available!
6 - Bins/bin bags attract foxy, especially un-emptied ones
7 - Restaurants/Cafe attract us
8 - Foxy bought up from birth by people would be a pet
