Just something to throw into the mix when theres already nationwide reports of "other" odd phenomenon the same time this was going on.
Low Temperature -11.0°C at 07:35 on 20th December 2010
Highest Daily Rainfall 77 mm (3.03 inches) on 10th August 2004
Highest Monthly Rainfall 287 mm (11.30 inches) in August 2004

Seismic data for Keswick. 1800 is the P-Wave from the Japanese Quake as mentioned previously.

We're in North Yorkshire (Wensleydale) and felt it quite strongly, but not enough for any damage.
Felt very wierd though.

Is it on the same fault line as the Cumbrian earthquake?
Snow falling: 5
Snow Lying: 2 - 16/12/11. Heavy snow most of the morning into afternoon. Stopped 2pm. 2 inches. (20/02/12 - dusting)
Lowest temperature: -5.5C (10/02/12 @ 4:47am)
Ice days: 0
Frosts: 21
Air frosts: 15
Days with hail falling: 8

Page not available for some reason on the BGS site. Maybe the earthquake affected it.
Ah got the site now. http://www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/
Seems it was in Ripon.
By the way, the bgs site have a page asking people to record where and what they felt for any quakes in the UK so I am sure would like some of the above posters to record the experience.
