Cet Hot Spells

About a year or so back, when I was a mere lurker, I came across Mr. Data's highly interesting and informative list of freezing spells in the daily CET record - this inspired me to develop a corresponding list for hot spells.

What follows is a list of periods of five or more consecutive days with a CET of 18.0C or above - I usually see 20C used as the cut-off due to it being a nice round number, but after some deliberation I decided on 18C as I felt it corresponded better to the cold equivalent of using 0C as the golden number (which unlike 20C is not only nice and round but is also the freezing point of water, which as we all know has very significant implications for the weather). For one thing, there are about the same number of months in the CET records with an average of 0C or below (39) as there are 18C or above (36 - there are no CET months in the records of 20C or above).

Anyway:

26-30th June 2010 - 18.82

Today should also come out above 18C, in which case we'll have to wait until the end of July to extend the run.

Nope, average CET. The maximum CET for the period in question was 25.6C.

I work in the computer section of a library. In my spare time, it may surprise you to know I like to study the weather...
