Don't know about you Nigel but I am thoroughly looking forward to next season! And you could have the bragging rights in your area when we send Newcastle to the bottom of the league :shok:

Me too :D it's going to be great seeing scunny playing against much bigger teams every week :D . They did fantastic to get promoted last season, but i can't see them winning many games next season :o it will be funny if they beat Newcastle though :D

Still speculation over what will happen to the buyout of Newcastle Utd, but it looks quite likely that they will get one at the reduced price tag. I don't think Mike Ashley quite deserves the degree of flak he has received, but he has repeatedly made the error of getting involved with the football side of things when his strengths lie in business. The Director of Football appointment was a disaster waiting to happen. Contrast with Randy Lerner at Villa who seems happy to control the business side and trust proven manager Martin O'Neill to run the football side effectively, and it seems to be working nicely. If Ashley cannot learn from those mistakes then it probably is best if he does go.

The more I think about the Newcastle situation the more I find myself thinking that now would be the ideal time to give Shearer a shot at managing the club- starting off in the Championship is easier than being thrown right into the deep end, he certainly knows a lot about how the club runs and the fan base, he talks some sense, and to be honest I'm not sure if there are any particularly good experienced managers who would be prepared to manage the club now that they've been relegated. It would certainly be a big gamble, but probably a gamble worth taking- also bearing in mind how Sunderland's gamble on Roy Keane paid off in the long run.

As for the other North East club, Middlesbrough- I think they need an overhaul of the players, as most of the players last season couldn't be bothered. I think standing by Gareth Southgate was the right decision for now, but if Boro end up languishing in mid-table or below for the next couple of seasons then I will start suggesting getting rid of him.

I've just been on Google getting some directions to a meeting next week, and I suddenly wondered where Ipswich's closest match will be next season following Norwich's sad* relegation. It's a three way tie between Peterborough, Watford and QPR, all about 90 miles away. Only Plymouth can be more isolated this season?

Great Asby Weather

All views I express are either my own or someone else's, which I've copied because I think they might make me sound intelligent, but definitely not Paul's or Netweather's.

I like the way Middlesbrough have an away fixture at Plymouth on Easter Monday, less than 48 hours after their Easter Saturday match!

I really cannot wait for the new season to begin at Coventry on August 8th. We don't seem to have to play Norwich this year though...oh wait... B)

Jim Magilton returns to Portman Road on December 28th with his QPR side - if he isn't sacked before then!

Coventry v Ipswich will be live on Sky, either on Saturday 8th or Sunday 9th August. I'm guessing the BBC may have West Brom v Newcastle as I would have thought that was the pick of the opening day fixtures?

I wouldn't recommend Peterborough because our ground is a dump. :whistling:

Do you sometimes get the chance to watch Ipswich OON?

Oh aye - I didn't go to many away games last season simply because money's been tight, but next season I'll definitely go to M'boro, Newcastle, Preston and QPR (have a friend in London and it's like a ritual). I'll miss Burnley now they're promoted because it's not everyday you can combine watching football with time-travel.

I'm also hoping to go to Portman Road for the first time in a few seasons as I'm on holiday in Norfolk for a fortnight this year and I can catch the midweek game against Palace.

You're right about London Road though - it's about as exciting as Alan Titchmarsh. I went there to watch P'boro play Notts County once. Dreadful.

Looks like we are appointing Roberto di Matteo as our new manager, very pleased with this.

Just noticed this thread, my new home for the season, just one hopefully
Despite all that has happened at Newcastle, i'm still excited as ever for the new season.
At least there are more games to enjoy, and surely more wins to celebrate than last year!
Used to live in Stanley, County Durham, nice and high up and getting plenty of snow.
Moved to Nottingham to be with my girlfriend, hopefully summer storms can make up for the sad lack of snow here!
