UK Outlook for Monday 23 Aug 2010 to Wednesday 1 Sep 2010:
A generally unsettled period of weather is in prospect. Showers or longer spells of rain are expected across the UK on many days, turning heavy in places, although it may become mostly dry for a time around the middle of the first week. Some sunshine is also likely, however, between the showers, probably most prevalent in the mornings. Strong winds are expected at times, especially in exposed western areas, where there is a risk of gales. Temperatures should be mainly on the cool side, but mild nights are likely under the cloud. Towards the end of the week, there are some indications of possibly improving conditions but the overall picture is for the unsettled theme to continue throughout.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 25 Aug 2010 to Friday 3 Sep 2010:
Much of the UK will be dry on Wednesday with only scattered showers likely, these mainly in northern and western parts. However, wetter and windier conditions are likely to spread across the UK during the last few days of the week. These unsettled conditions may continue into the Bank Holiday weekend although there are some indications of drier and brighter weather spreading from the west later before the end of the weekend. The last few days of August and the first few days of September are likely to remain unsettled, although with a greater chance of drier and brighter spells in the south and east. Temperatures will be generally rather cool at first but should gradually recover to near normal by the start of September.

It is likely to be an unsettled and windy start to the Bank Holiday weekend with heavy showers and coastal gales affecting much of the United Kingdom during Friday. Some mixed weather is likely over the rest of the weekend with further showers, but also sunny spells. Southern England may become humid for a time with risk of heavy rain or showers, but with many northern and western areas staying cooler. The end of August and start of September are likely to remain rather changeable across the north, but with some drier and brighter spells developing. Southern and eastern areas will often be drier and sunnier. Temperatures will be generally rather cool at first but should gradually recover, becoming warm at times in the south.

Many parts of the United Kingdom are expected to see a mixture of sunshine and showers on Saturday. The showers should then become mostly confined to northern Scotland on Sunday, although there is still a chance of some rain affecting southern England, perhaps heavy or thundery. During the first part of next week, there should be a good deal of dry and bright weather for most places, though showers are still possible. The start of September is likely to be rather changeable across the north, but with some drier and brighter spells developing. Southern and eastern areas will often be drier and sunnier. Temperatures will be generally near normal or rather cool at first but should gradually recover, becoming warm at times in the south.

From the 16th onwards the forecast remains similar with a north south split still, but with a marked reduction in confidence and in the detail. It will be breezy at times, with a risk of gales in exposed areas, especially in the north of the UK. Strong westerly winds and periods of heavy rain are expected for most; particularly in exposed western and northwestern parts of the UK. Windy in these areas, possibly gale force towards the weekend. Remaining generally unsettled, but with some sunnier periods for all areas towards the weekend; wettest and windiest in the northwest, and driest and brightest in the southeast. Sunshine and showers, mixed with occasional longer spells of rain look set to continue to the end of the outlook period. Daytime temperatures are likely to stay near normal in the south, with it becoming cooler in the north, bringing an increasing risk of localised overnight frost.

Dry for most of the UK on Wednesday with just a few showers in northern parts, particularly over Scotland, accompanied with strong, possibly gale force northwesterly winds in exposed northeastern parts of Scotland for a time. Further spells of rain or showers for most parts of the UK after Thursday and into the weekend, particularly across Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England, where it will also remain fairly windy at times. There should be more in the way of drier and brighter conditions towards the south of England. Temperatures will feel rather cool in the north with the frequent spells of rain, but nearer normal further south. This north-south split across the UK is expected to continue after the weekend and during the following week.

The southern half of the United Kingdom is likely to be dry at first on Thursday with some bright or sunny spells, but rain is expected to spread from the west later in the day, affecting much of England and Wales on Friday and possibly continuing into Saturday in the southeast. Northern areas are likely to be windy with showers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and it will feel rather cool. Sunshine and showers will spread across the UK by the start of the following week and it will become rather cool, with a chance of overnight frost. This more unsettled weather is likely to spread to most parts of the UK by Wednesday 22nd and last throughout the period, with rain turning heavy at times in northwestern regions. Winds will become strong, possibly gale force in many areas, but should stay lighter in the south and southeast at first. Temperatures will be a little below normal at first, with patchy frost possible in rural spots, but should recover to near or slightly above normal early in the week beginning Monday 20th.
