METO UK Further Outlook

Posted 12 September 2007 - 12:48
Outbreaks of rain will clear southwards on Monday, followed by a strong, cold northerly airflow for a couple of days. These northerly winds, perhaps up to gale force in the north will bring a mixture of sunshine and showers, the showers wintry over the higher mountains of Scotland. Showers should be few and far between for many southwestern areas with more sunshine here. During the rest of next week, temperatures should slowly recover to nearer the seasonal average as winds back round more to the west, but it is likely to remain unsettled and at times windy, especially in the north. The sunniest weather is likely to transfer more towards the southeast. Little change is likely into the following week, rather unsettled and at times windy with temperatures near normal.

Rain over parts of East and Southeast England soon clearing on Tuesday with a clear and generally dry northerly airflow for a couple of days. Rather chilly especially at night with ground frost and perhaps isolated air frost. Rain is expected to reach the Northwest later on Wednesday, the rest of the week becoming rather unsettled with rain or showers for all parts. The heaviest and most persistent rain over the northwest where it will be windy at times with the best of the dry and brighter conditions over the south and east. Temperatures recovering to near normal as the winds back to the west or southwest. Little change is likely into the following week, rather unsettled and at times windy conditions continuing with temperatures near normal.

Although southern areas will be dry for much of Wednesday with some sunshine, unsettled conditions are expected for much of the period with showers and some longer spells of rain for all parts. The heaviest and most persistent rain is likely over the north and northwest where it will be windy at times with gales over exposed areas. Some brighter and drier interludes especially over the south at the beginning of next week with the risk of overnight mist and fog patches forming. With generally west or southwesterly winds temperatures will be mostly near normal but it will become rather warm at times in the brighter interludes though with a few chilly nights. These most likely over the south.

The heaviest and most persistent rain is likely over the north and northwest where it will be windy at times with gales likely at times over exposed areas. Over the week-end and into next week northern parts will remain unsettled but some brighter and drier interludes are expected to develop over the south where clear periods at night will give the risk of mist and fog patches forming. With generally west or southwesterly winds temperatures will be mostly near normal but it will become rather warm at times in the brighter, drier interludes though with a few chilly nights. These most likely over the south.

An unsettled start to the outlook period is expected with plenty of cloud and showers or spells of rain, most persistent and locally heavy in the west. Brighter conditions and scattered showers are likely to spread in from the northwest by mid-week with drier, brighter weather in the south too, however, there will still be a risk of some outbreaks of rain. A generally windy spell, especially in the north and east, with gales possible over northern Scotland at first. Currently it looks like becoming more settled again for a few days towards the end of next week, before further weather fronts are expected to spread cloud and rain in from the Atlantic again. Temperatures around or just below normal generally, perhaps rather warm in any prolonged sunny spells.

Generally unsettled across the UK through this period with showers or longer spells of rain, most of the rain in the north and west where some heavy spells of rain are expected. The best of the drier and brighter spells is likely in the south and east although even here there will be some rain at times. Sometimes windy especially in the north and west where there is a risk of gales, and breezy at times elsewhere as well. Temperatures for the most part close to the seasonal average although it will feel quite cool at times in the wind. Overnight temperatures as well will be close to normal with no significant frost problems expected.

Eastern England is likely to see some showers, locally heavy, to end the week, with most other places fine and dry with sunny spells. Overnight mist and fog patches are likely and it will be rather cold generally, so some ground frosts are expected inland. Those showers should ease away from eastern parts by Sunday leaving fine weather for most into next week with temperatures recovering to around normal. However, unsettled conditions with spells of rain are likely to spread northeastwards across more western areas next Monday or Tuesday. Thereafter there is plenty of uncertainty over the forecast but there is a risk of fairly unsettled conditions spreading across most other parts during the second part of next week, although temperatures should be around or just above normal.

Central and eastern England are likely to be rather cold with some showers, locally heavy, on Saturday, with most other places fine and dry with sunny spells. Overnight mist and fog patches are expected, with some ground frost possible inland. Those showers should become more isolated on Sunday leaving some fine weather, however spells of rain are likely to spread across western areas during the day. Unsettled and rather cloudy conditions with showers or longer spells of rain are then likely to become widespread across the UK for much of next week. High pressure to the north is forecast to bring the driest and brightest conditions across northern Scotland. Temperatures should be around normal, perhaps rising to just above normal in the south later next week.

High pressure will be dominant across many areas of the UK giving a good deal of dry weather with mostly light winds. This will give some sunny spells by day with temperatures near normal but under clear skies at night it will turn cold with patchy mist and fog and perhaps some ground frost at times too. Not all areas will be completely dry though with some southern parts of Britain liable to cloudier skies and perhaps a few showers at first, with northern parts of the UK increasingly liable to wetter spells in the latter days of this period. Temperatures for the most part near normal although some southern and western areas could see temperatures rise above normal.

This period may start rather unsettled in some places with some showers or longer spells of rain, particularly in the south and east of the country. The northwest could have the best weather at first with some brighter spells. Throughout much of the rest of the forecast period, further showers or are likely almost anywhere, but perhaps becoming more biased towards western and northwestern areas, with some good spells of drier, brighter and fairly warm weather for the time of year, in southern and southeastern parts. Winds are most likely to come from a southerly quadrant in this period, which will lead to most places having temperatures on the warm side of average, particularly by night.

This forecast period may start rather unsettled in many places with some showers or longer spells of rain, of which some may be heavy, and in the south, thundery. Throughout the weekend and during the following week, further showers or are likely almost anywhere, but perhaps becoming more biased towards western and northwestern areas, where it could be windy at times. Some good spells of drier, brighter and fairly warm weather for the time of year, are likely in southern and southeastern parts with high pressure over the near continent. Plenty of cloud and outbreaks of rain are expected across northern Britain and N.Ireland through the end of next week and into the following one. The most persistent rain, and perhaps some heavy bursts at times, are expected to the northwest, where it will be windy too. Elsewhere will be largely dry with broken cloud and some sunny spells, but also occasional showers, and overnight fog patches are likely under any cloud breaks. Generally it will be rather warm with mild nights. Towards the end of this forecast period, northern parts are likely to have a drier spell, whilst there is more chance of cloud and outbreaks of rain in the south, although there is still some uncertainty over these details.

Much of the UK will be dry at first with some bright or sunny intervals after the clearance of overnight mist and fog patches, but outbreaks of rain are likely at times across parts of Scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland. Thereafter the weather is expected to be generally drier than average, with the greatest risk of significant rain in the northwest of the UK. Gales will probably be less frequent than average. Some bright or sunny intervals are likely during the day after the clearance of overnight mist and fog patches. Temperatures are expected to be around the average for the first half of October, but it could be on the warm side in sunnier parts.

Patchy rain is likely in central parts of the UK on Saturday, showers are expected to the north but it should be dry in the south. The rain risk will transfer to the north on Sunday leaving the south dry but often cloudy. Some bright or sunny spells may develop with clear intervals overnight. Most places will be dry but rather cloudy during the first part of the week; any breaks in the cloud will allow mist and fog to form overnight. The second half of the period will probably be mainly dry with the greatest risk of rain in the northwest of the UK. Temperatures will be near or a little above average and gales will be less frequent than average.

High pressure should bring fine conditions with some sunny spells to most parts and perhaps some early morning mist and fog patches during the outlook period. Northern and northwestern parts are most likely to see some showers or spells of rain at times, although there may be some rain in the west too at first next week. Otherwise it should be generally dry. Winds will be light in the main with temperatures around or a little above normal, perhaps warm in the sunnier parts of the south. Some ground frost patches may develop under any overnight clear spells. By the start of the second week, more unsettled and breezier conditions may spread from the west across all parts.

Areas of cloud may be thick enough to bring some light drizzle in parts of the south at first, and there is a low risk of some outbreaks of rain moving eastwards across the UK next Monday and Tuesday. Otherwise it should be generally dry with high pressure bringing fine conditions with some sunny spells and perhaps some early morning mist and fog patches. Winds will be light in the main with temperatures around or a little above normal, perhaps warm in the sunnier parts of the south. Some ground frost patches may develop under any overnight clear spells. By the start of the second week, more unsettled and breezier conditions could spread from the west across all parts for a brief time before high pressure reasserts itself.

High pressure will prevail throughout next week, and into next weekend, with largely dry and settled conditions across much of the UK. This will allow pleasant sunshine by day, and clear spells overnight which could lead to local pockets of mist and fog. However, on Tuesday (9th) there is the risk of a little showery rain over Northern Ireland, western and northern Scotland and perhaps a few other western areas. Temperatures will be near normal in many places, although some districts could see a little overnight frost at times, especially across the northeast of the UK, and winds should be light for many. The generally dry and settled weather looks like continuing into the following week, too, although parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland could become a little more unsettled.

There could be some rain across southeastern parts at first on Wednesday. However, this should quickly move away with high pressure once again becoming established across much of the UK during the latter part of next week, through next weekend and into the following week. This will lead to dry, bright and settled conditions for most with variable cloud, leading to some pleasant sunny spells by day and patches of mist and fog at night. Winds will be light and so it should feel very pleasant in the sunshine. However, it will be quite chilly at night, perhaps with a ground frost in places. The north and northwest of the UK, mainly north and northwest Scotland, will be somewhat more unsettled with some heavier rain at times and stronger winds.
