Darren Betts did this evening's forecast and he is a notorious lover of all things mild, he seemed very confident none of the precipitation this week would bring snow, although the charts were clearly showing snow in north scotland for Friday he just said wintry showers..
I don't know where this idea of high pressure suddenly developing over the country late on Thursday into Friday has come from. I honestly think they don't have a clue for later in the week and were scared to say snow threat.. Also the headline cold and cloudy is a bit misleading in general it is going to be quite a wet week, cold and unsettled would have been a better phrase.
A poor forecast and one which won't verify from thursday onwards.

Country Tracks mentioned at the end of the forecast 'mild week ahead, but getting much colder the week after'.
I found that a bit bizarre to make such broad sweeping statement 10+ days in advance however with this confidence i can only assume that the Met have seen or are expecting changes in the up stream patterns.
So maybe we can expect height rises to our north/east, it's just a question of postioning and the small little matter of trigger/sliding lows to enable us to tap into that cold pool.

Several BBC forecasters, e.g., Liam Dutton who tweeted about it 3 or 4 days ago, have been mentioning that the models seem to presage much colder weather around/after mid-month.
