My Weather Diary of May 2013

Posted by A Winter's Tale in Scotland Weather Central 2013, 01 May 2013 · 238 views

1st May: May is one of the finest months of the year with warm Spring sunshine, quite long days, usually fairly dry but prone to thunderstorms and some unsettled weather. Usually the first proper tastes of summer weather arrive at this time of year but also the last of the chilly Spring days and cold nights and even some wintriness. Last year, the first t...

World Snooker Championship + top 10 favourite players

Posted by Thundery wintry showers in The Land of TWS (aka Ian), 20 April 2013 · 278 views

The 2013 World Championship is underway. I'm particularly intrigued as to how Ronnie O'Sullivan will fare after his sabbatical from the sport, but if anyone can come back "rusty" and put in a fine performance, it would have to be him.

I have the players as most likely to win the tournament as Neil Robertson, Mark Selby and Mark Allen. I think Judd Trump...

Another 2006?

This March sure feels like it at the moment, bitterly cold with snow fall as you can see.

But 2006 was the last of the good, "hot" summers in recent years so I am hoping this is a good omen as it turned out to be then.

Fingers crossed.

Factors affecting a lack of snowfall in Embra city (blogged from the thread, for future reference perhaps)

No entirely sure I understand all the factors in the Edinburgh snowshield but it definitely exists. We came back down the A9 from Boat of...

Frustrated - Part II

Posted by Anti-Mild in Anti-Mild's Blog, 21 January 2013 · 301 views

It's been snowing here pretty solidly since about 10pm yesterday, but it's the snow equivalent of drizzle - snizzle! As such we've had an additional dusting, but there has been a bit of a melt as well. In previous winters I reckon we've done better here than in most other parts of the country, so I suppose it's time to share the...

Weather forecast: 3 January

Posted by Bobby in Bobby's Blog, 03 January 2013 · 357 views

I don't see a lot to change forecast much, quite a bit of uncertainty going into mid-Jan but no I see no strong cold signal yet although signs of something stirring in the model output lately.

Weather forecast based on latest model output (3 Jan):

Mild/very mild TM air is now established over the British Isles and high pressure to our...

I expect the continuation of unsettled conditions, with on average temperatures remaining close to the norm. Given the expected continuation of a –NAO, and –AO I would not bet against colder interludes, in the form of brief northerlys, as we progress...

Well it's that time of year again so I'd like to wish everyone on NW a very Merry Christmas. Might even see some of the...

Cooling down or warming up?

I really have no idea where to begin with the new blog of the new year, but anyway.
For the past month or so, we have been receiving what I can only describe as moderately cooler than
normal temperatures, but not on the scale of 2010. If we compare both years, then it's fare to say that
this year would definitely be classed as much milder...why? because...

9th August Through The Ages

1992
Severe overnight thunderstorms experienced at Fleet, Hants, only hours after returning from Cornwall holiday (Par). A very muggy and humid morning on the beach and low cloud broke up to allow hot sunshine on Saturday 8th. My fear that an active plume event had hit home areas and I had missed a fantastic storm were groundless - had to wait to get...
