Tuesday was our longest drive so far. Leaving Sonora we drove North and into the the Texas Panhandle, our first view of Tornado Alley proper.

The area is flat, towns are few and far between and skies are big.
Dust Devils can often be seen dancing in the distance across the hot and vast wide open spaces.

The dismal, cool and soggy Spring continues relentlessly. A respite from the rain this weekend but a fairly unsettled outlook for the coming week, so still no prolonged dry or warm weather as yet. In fact, more late frosts are expected in...

There Is More To The Weather Than Whether It's Settled Or Unsettled

weather, high, anticyclone, dry and 2 more...

As time goes on I am fearing that the Model Output Discussion is going to degenerate into the usual summer fare, where the UK's weather is over-simplistically divided into two types: "settled" aka "good", and "unsettled" aka "bad".

The main problem is that the desire for "settled" weather, for most...

A Move From (not So) Sunny Skye

Posted by Ladyofthestorm in Ladyofthestorm's Blog, 02 April 2012 · 137 views

The weather on Skye from October right through to March has been pretty awful, not much snow has fallen, nor did we get the settled mid winter spell either. Instead it was rain and wind all he way. The locals had said to me it was the worse winter for 20 years maybe more and some of these locals have leved in Skye for 50 years and more!

And now that...

The Moments Of The Year In Weather - 2012

Posted by A Scottish Winter's Tale in Scotland Weather Central, 29 March 2012 · 233 views

GREAT STORM OF JANUARY 2012:

Woke up at 6am to the sound of an almighty gust of wind that made the most incredible bangs. The roar, drone and rumble of the wind was endless and loud and I could hear it smashing some area of the town, just hoping that the particular gust won't reach here. The gusts were constent and mental. I...

First Snow Date For Me

Posted by Tellow in Winter, 06 December 2011 · 627 views

The first wintry shower suprisingly arrived for me on the 20th November, and I live in the East Midlands. That day was foggy throughout and drizzle fell as sleet in the early morning when temperatures were low.

First significant snow came on the 4th December in the evening but lasted a mere 2 minutes.

Lomond Snowstorm's 2011/12 Winter Forecast

I perhaps left this forecast a bit late, to the point that it coincides with the Netweather one, but I felt it was worth doing one anyway even if it overlaps with much of what others are saying. I'll have a look at the factors to consider, then summarise each individual month, both in terms of the general pattern and for Scotland in...

Just thought I'd get my blog rolling with something that I know a lot of people are affected by and interested in - the craziness of the model thread at times (it won't be all about such thrilling topics as moderating!).

The model thread is one of the most visited, read and posted into parts of the forum, often a source of much entertainment,...
