Just thought I'd get my blog rolling with something that I know a lot of people are affected by and interested in - the craziness of the model thread at times (it won't be all about such thrilling topics as moderating!).
The model thread is one of the most visited, read and posted into parts of the forum, often a source of much entertainment, info and enjoyment but sometimes also a source of frustration, off topicness and occasional insanity
We know from the feedback we get that the vast majority of the members want that thread kept on topic and un-cluttered so we do our best to keep it that way, but wow is it hard work at times.. We try not to delete, move or edit posts wherever possible as we want the discussion to flow, but in that particular thread we do seem to have to step in more than we'd like to.
Not only can things go from perfect to a nightmare in the flash because there's obviously a lot of passion and varying opinions around the topics being discussed (and this is one of the reasons we really appreciate your reports when you spot something untoward), but there are also grey areas when it comes to trying to decide what is or isn't on topic or what is or isn't overstepping our guidelines.
The obvious ones are simple to deal with - it's those posts which have a bit of model, a bit of something else and a bit of a bit more - editing posts is an option but sometimes if we get there too late there can then be 10 replies to the off topic part of the post and it's then all starting to look a bit messy. Then there's the issue of what constitutes a 'personal attack' - some people have a different way with words than others, plus it's really difficult to read the tone of a post when all you have is black and white on the page, sometimes an innocuous comment leads to outrage and other times a comment which looked ott turns out to have been ok.
Then of course there's the human element - we have a great team here all of whom are here to try to help out the best that they can, but we're all different, all see posts differently and will all take slightly different decisions when it comes to these grey areas. While that can lead to what some people see as inconsistency at times, it's also a strength - it's much better to have humans trying to understand the thread and judging things on their merits than a black and white robotic response to issues.
But anyway, I've typed too much already - but hopefully I've given a bit of an insight into how we're trying to keep everything running smoothly, how much effort we put into that, and how tricky it can be at times. We're not perfect, but no human is so please don't hold that against us! Please keep the reports coming, try to keep your posts in the model thread on topic and respectful to the other members, and if you have any questions at all please drop any one of us a pm..
Cheers
Paul

A General/long range thread is bound to be the busier of the two due to more people looking for trends futher a field rather than what we "know" is highly likely in the reliable time frames.
Try two official threads and keep them up for a long while till all the NW members get used it, becuase having one thread for Model Output is always going to be mess if you have some people commenting on the reliable and a magority commenting on random longer range charts which they are totally entitled to do regardless of preferences and time frame.
