Arctic Blast
Over the next 24 hours or so the UK will be entering its second major cold spell of the season, and it will on begin tonight as a front moves down from the North, with the arctic air following closely behind. Now there has been alot of talk about downgrades, over the last few hours there really has not, the charts are still trying to pin point where the snow will actually fall and where it will be at its heaviest.
Anyway back to tonight, and you can see from the chart below, the front that will be responsible for bringing in the cold air. Now as the front moves south there will be wintriness to it. However it’s still hard to pin point at the moment. I think most areas are likely to see a dusting from this if not move, and if you don't see any snow there will certainly be a major ice risk for most if not all areas. The precip chart I am using below is to highlight what will happen when the front moves South, i am not using it to forecast snow. As I feel these charts are pretty unreliable. If you want to forecast snow watch the radar and look out the window, as i don't think anyone can get it right. Look at the last cold spell i got a pasting one Friday night, was it forecast nope. So they do and will get it wrong lol.
From the charts above, i feel most areas could see a rain to snow event for a couple of hours, more so for Scotland. Now looking at the chart below there is a good chance most of the UK will have seen some kind of snow from this?

As the front clears on Thursday afternoon/evening, most areas of the UK will be affected by snow showers. Granted coastal areas will see the most frequent of snow showers, but I’m expecting these showers to move more inland than the charts are showing.
Friday night into Saturday could be interesting for Southern and central areas of the uk, as a band of more general sleet and snow moves across. How far north it will get is anyone guesses at the moment though.
Again note there is still going to be a fair few showers around for most areas of the UK, and these showers will soon see the CM's adding up.
Saturday afternoon and into the evening could again prove good for most areas
However as we move into Sunday things may turn dryer and ice days could well be the problem.
All in all people need to remember with such an unstable air flow polar lows can develop (which are not forecasts by the charts)
